CARICC – IS A STANDING INTERGOVERNMENTAL BODY TO COORDINATE EFFORTS IN THE FIGHT AGAINST TRANSNATIONAL DRUG-RELATED CRIME

On 3 June 2009 one of the internet-newspapers published a controversial article by O. Razumovski who introduced himself as CARICC staff member 
CARICC officially states that the person with this name never worked in CARICC and consequently CARICC has no relation to the above mentioned article.

Outcomes of the international conference in Dushanbe

International conference on information analysis and sharing was held on 29 May 2009 in Dushanbe under the UNODC project TD/RER/F23. The representatives of Central Asian countries, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Russia as well as the diplomatic missions and international organisations accredited in Tajikistan participated in the meeting. CARICC was represented by Mr. Sarsekov, Director. Importance of sharing of intelligence was reiterated by the participants.

CARICC will get access to open source databases

During the visit to the SECI Centre in Bucharest CARICC delegation met with Mr. Daniel Little, the Center for Technology, Security and Policy, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (USA). It was agreed that the Centre will provide CARICC with an access to the open source databases.

Visit of CARICC delegation to the SECI Centre

On May 24-27, 2009 a delegation from CARICC and UNODC visited Bucharest, Romania on invitation of the SECI Centre (Southeast European Co-operative Initiative). The goal of the meeting was to establish cooperation between CARICC and SECI Centre to improve coordination efforts of the law-enforcement agencies on the regional and international levels in counteracting transnational crimes.

Government of Kazakhstan allocated 410 mln tenge for CARICC

According to “Kazakhstan Today” Information Agency 410 million tenge (approximately US $2.73 million) will be allocated for the development of CARICC. This was announced on May 19, 2009 during the meeting of the government of Kazakhstan by the Minister of Interior Mr. Baimaganbetov. The allocated money will be spent for refurbishment of the CARICC building located in Almaty.

CARICC - Central Asian Regional Information and Coordination Centre for combating the illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors, established within the Memorandum of Understanding on sub-regional drug control cooperation dated May 4 1996 (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) between the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, the Republic of Uzbekistan and UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
