CARICC – IS A STANDING INTERGOVERNMENTAL BODY TO COORDINATE EFFORTS IN THE FIGHT AGAINST TRANSNATIONAL DRUG-RELATED CRIME

A Meeting was held in CARICC with CARICC Director and Special Representative of the UN Secretary General and Representative of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy in Kazakhstan

On March 29, 2016, a meeting was held in CARICC with B. Zhunusov, CARICC Director and Petko Draganov, Special Representative of the UN Secretary General/Head of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy in Central Asia, and Ms. Bakhyt Abdildina, Representative of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy in Kazakhstan.
During the meeting the parties briefed each other on the goals and challenges facing by two organizations. The parties articulated mutual opinion on the need of bilateral cooperation in the context of the review of possible financing of extremist and terrorist activities as a result of drug trafficking, and other issues. An agreement has been reached in terms of cooperation in a complementary manner. Following the meeting, the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy in Central Asia has been included in the mailing list of recipients of CARICC information products of review and reference nature.

CARICC - Central Asian Regional Information and Coordination Centre for combating the illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors, established within the Memorandum of Understanding on sub-regional drug control cooperation dated May 4 1996 (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) between the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, the Republic of Uzbekistan and UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
